The Best and Worst of Motherhood
Until the moment I became a mother, I couldn't quite understand or comprehend the depth when people say "Mothers are the strongest, most noble and loving people in this whole wide world" It's just a whole bunch of cliché stuff that I could live without, thank you very much! The pain. The joy. The sacrifices. The love. The fear. The confusion. The anxiety, panic, loss of time, loss of privacy. The internal battle between a person's own inner personality conflicting with those of being a mother. The need to be alone and oneself roughly pushed aside because a child needs caring, loving and affection. The loss of sleep, the loss of opportunities. I knew but I never understood. Now that I am mom, everything within me is screaming for attention. My needs to be the best mom in this whole wide world and the need for me to be the best that I can be. Now, I realize the weight of the statement. We are the noblest people in this whole wide world. There are many different sensations which come along with being a mother. Some good and some bad. Best moments of motherhood
1. Seeing your baby's first smile (does it matter that it could have been wind in tummy? Nah!) 2. Breastfeeding 3. Baby cooing and smiling when she sees you 4. Baby calms down when you give me a nice warm cuddle 5. Baby's first tooth 6. The first giant wobbly step 7. The first word 8. The first baby utters 'mamma' or 'mommy' 9. Getting down for tickle-time?right after story time 10. Seeing your child/baby overcome an obstacle without your help 11. The start of potty training (Very huge accomplishment) 12. The first A, B, C? 13. The first 1, 2, 3 14. When your baby comes over to you for a hug (for no apparent reason at all) 15. When someone tells you that your child is handsome or pretty 16. When someone compliments you on how well-behaved your child is 17. Child learns how to dance 18. Enjoying the off-key singing of your child 19. Seeing your child make new friends 20. Your child is able to love someone else other than you and herself. 21. You can dance around naked with your child with no inhibition 22. Going shopping with your teen. 23. Kissing your child in the morning before leaving for work 24. when your child gives you something to show you what a wonderful mother you have been to him/her. Worst moments of motherhood
1. colic 2. First month as a mother 3. Teething problems 4. Inability to understand what your child is yabbering about (when learning to talk) 5. Sleeplessness 6. Awful excess of weight 7. First few months returning to work 8. Separation anxiety (for both mother and child) 9. Missing your child when you're alone 10. The inability to watch a single TV program or movie right to the end uninterrupted 11. Missing out with all your unmarried, child-less friends 12. Missing out on those romantic diaper-less moments with your spouse 13. Baby giving your health shock 3 times a week 14. The first few days of weaning baby onto solids 15. Weaning baby from the breast 16. You feel like complete old hag in a disco or party. 17. First few times baby starts walking (toddling) 18. Throwing a tantrum of your own in response to your child's 19. Clinging child when you're tired from work or rushing to meet a deadline 20. Starting preschool 21. Employing a new nanny 22. When your teen gets his/her driving license?.oohhh?.the tension and stress! 23. Unfortunately many families are in a similar situation where both parents are working full time and someone other than the biological parents are caring for their children. Understanding Why Your Child Has Been Recommended for Testing
You have just received a call from your child's teacher explaining that she has noticed your child having difficulty in school. Your child is not understanding math or reading the way the other children do. So she would like your permission to proceed with testing to find out if he has a learning disability. When this happens, it is always a good idea to meet with the teacher in person. Being proactive is extremely important to your child's educational future. Arrange to sit down and talk with the teacher to discover specifically why she has recommended this. You may want to include the special education teacher as well, as she may be able to further clarify just what they are seeing that is causing them to question your child's abilities. One thing you have to understand is that just because a learning disability is questioned, that does not mean that your child isn't smart. It just means that, for some reason, he's either not able to access those smarts and is not "getting" what is being taught. Or, he may be having difficulty expressing what he has actually learned. One indication that there is a problem might be that the child gets very good grades in math, but his reading is below average. He is not reading at the same level that most of the other students of his age are reading at. There is a big difference between his learning in math and his learning in reading. If he is old enough, there may be standardized test scores that also show that huge difference, and the teacher should be able to show you that information. You may have noticed other indications at home but thought they were just "kid things". If you ask your child to do 2 or 3 things in a row, does he forget most of them? When you ask him a question, does he have difficulty expressing the answer? Is his room always disorganized? Does he have trouble socially? These are some of the questions you might want to think about as you talk with the teacher and ask if she notices them in the classroom. It is important you realize that by doing this, you are not putting your child down or complaining about him or labeling him as a "bad kid". You are discussing the facts of what is actually going on, or not going on, with his learning. You are acting in his best interest. Do not hesitate to ask questions about anything you don't understand. The teachers will not think that you are stupid or inadequate The area of Learning Disabilities can be very confusing and overwhelming to anyone. It is best that you understand what is going on right from the beginning. When the teachers have explained the symptoms to your satisfaction, then it is time to find out what will happen from here. Ask specific questions about the testing, how best to address your child's concerns and how to minimize any "stigma" your child might experience as a result of being tested.

Is Your Child Learning Nothing?
You send your child to school and the teachers teach them. If that is what you think, you could be way wrong !
While most teachers are good at presenting information to a class, learning happens ONLY if kids actually want to learn. Teachers may have little time for individual work, and you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.
And in many schoolrooms today a majority of the class see learning as not cool, with kids trying hard to not learn !
You may think that the school will tell you if your child is not learning, but you will probably be way wrong there.
School funding generally depends on the school saying how good they are at teaching children, so often they will say that all kids are doing fine even when many are learning nothing.
You may think that school inspectors will ensure that kids are learning well, but NO their job is only to ensure that teachers are teaching well.
So is your child learning nothing ? Well many parents today find out by setting their children their own school tests - as by using Math Sheets that come with the answers. It can be made an easy fun 5-minute daily game "let's play our 'my school test' game".
Not only will you then know that your child is learning, but you should find that you showing a little regular interest in their learning will increase their learning motivation strongly.
You can stick to maths sheets only, or can vary your mini-school-test to science or other subjects using questions from their schoolbooks. Just keep it brief so it does not become a chore for them.
If you show a little regular interest in your child's learning then they will want to learn, and will not follow anti-learning classmates.
Then when the school says that your child is doing fine, it will happen to actually be the truth!
