Registering a Birth in Scotland
Who Can Register A Birth?
The child's mother or father should register the birth within 21 days. However, a father who is not married to the child's
mother can only register a birth and be named on the birth certificate as the father if:
- he jointly signs the register with the mother, or
- a court has declared that he is the father, or
- the mother and he jointly sign a declaration available from
the Registrar.
If the child's mother and father are unable to register the
birth for reasons of incapacity, the following can register the
baby's birth:
- any person present at the birth, or
- anybody living in the premises where the birth took
place, or
- a relative of the mother or father (if they are married), or
- any person having legal charge of the baby.
Where Do You Register A Birth?
The baby's birth should be registered either in the
district where the birth took place, or the district where
the mother permanently lives. Ask at the hospital for the
address of the local registrar, or check the telephone
directory under "Registration of Births, Marriages and
Deaths".
What Evidence Do I Need To Provide?
The registrar will require:
- the baby's parents' marriage certificate, and
- the card given to you by the hospital.
If either of these documents are not available, go to
the registrar anyway. Do not wait longer than the 21
days required by law. ****************************************************************

Why Creativity and Self-Expression are Important to Little Kids
Can you draw a straight line? Most adults don't consider themselves artistic. Parents do, however, worry about their toddler's art abilities. As a child care provider for the past 10 years, I've had many discussions with parents about 'how their toddler is doing' as far as getting ready for preschool or kindergarten. They worry a lot about the final product of their toddler's art projects. I try to explain to them that art is not just knowing how to draw a flower or a puppy, or whether or not little Jason colors in the lines. Little kids need to experience self-expression and the 'doing of art' more than having a page from a coloring book to hang on the refrigerator.

Raising Happy Diabetic Kids Part III Help Your Child Develop Self-Control
This is the third and final article in a series I wrote about raising happy diabetic kids. While Juvenile Diabetes makes this job tougher the information in these articles applies to raising any child. Diabetic children aren't any different from other children. Their pancreas just doesn't work. However, the emotional toll that diabetes takes on a child, even when blood glucose levels are under fairly good control, must be taken into account whenever we consider what is best for them. We can be very helpful in raising children who are emotionally strong and better able to avoid and overcome these stresses brought on by diabetes by making sure they are raised with a strong foundation of these three basic life skills. Self-Confidence, Self-Reliance, and Self-Control.
Punishing the Victim -- Why Public Schools Pressure Parents To Give Their Kids Mind-Altering Drugs
Public-school teaching is structured in such a way that it inevitably bores millions of normal, active children who are forced to sit in classrooms six to eight hours a day with about twenty other immature children. The teacher has to cover the curriculum, so she is pressured to teach all the kids the same material in the same way. Few teachers have the time or patience to know each child's unique personality, interests, strengths, or weaknesses, or give different instruction to each student.

Unschooling - the Benefits of Home Based Education
Home schooling benefits children. As a parent, I feel it is important to provide the best opportunities available to my children. Through a process of home educating known as 'unschooling' and eclectic educational styles my children have opportunities that are unavailable through traditional means of education. I believe it is important to create leaders through individualized training and development.
How To Use Positive Child Discipline
I am a single mother of a 17 year old boy. He has turned out so great. Honor Student. Just a loving person. I attribute this to the way I brought up my son. I can't say I never yelled at him--that would not be true but I did not hit my son. Hitting is just a way of getting out your anger quickly. Verbal abuse is just as bad. So what can a mother do to raise her children in a loving way.

Ask parents what their biggest school year challenge is, and you'll likely hear that it is the difficulty they face in getting their kids to do homework. As with any chore, though, there are strategies you can use to get it done and make it more fun.
Child Separation Anxiety: Does Your Child Have It?
If you are a parent, then more than likely you may face the common problem of separation anxiety in your child. What exactly is child separation anxiety? In a nutshell, this is the type of anxiety or stress your child may encounter when you leave him/her alone and they get upset or cry due to the separation involved. The reason they get upset or cry is because the child learns to remember objects or specific people, and when those objects or people become absent, anxiety sets in.
How Illiteracy Can Ruin Your Childs Life
It may seem obvious to many people why literacy is so important in our technologically advanced society. However, many parents may not fully realize the emotional pain and life-long damage illiteracy can cause their children. Literacy, the ability to read well, is the foundation of children's education.
Strategies to Help Boost Your Childs Self Esteem
Self esteem in an important quality for all children to have. As parents, you can help to boost your child's self esteem by following the steps below:
Psychological Effects of Child Abuse
Many children who suffer from the psychological effects of child abuse often become child abusers themselves or can become perpetrators of violent crimes. Many inmates in our jails and prisons have been victims of child abuse. Though the psychological effects of child abuse cannot be reversed, through counseling a child can learn more appropriate coping skills in dealing with their pain and anger.
Some psychological effects of child abuse are:
* Withdrawal from friends
* Low self esteem
* Timid and unsure of themselves
* Aggressive/hostile
* Angry
* Poor relationships with peers and/or the opposite sex
* Engaging in drugs and/or alcohol
* Poor school performance
* No interests
* No goals
Minimize the psychological effects of child abuse with therapy
In order to help a child who is suffering from the psychological effects of child abuse therapy is a great place to start. A therapist will assist a child in dealing with the psychological effects of child abuse to hopefully break the cycle of abuse.
Eliminate the psychological effects of child abuse by seeking help
If you, or your partner, are abusing your child seek help immediately. If your partner is the abuser you should consider moving you and your child to a safe and supportive environment. If you and your partner are the abusers, to prevent further damaging psychological effects of child abuse, you might want to consider having your child stay with a family member or close friend while you get the help and support you need.
Psychological Effects Of Child Abuse Resources
* Anger management classes
* Parenting classes
* Therapy and drug / alcohol treatment (if necessary)
Prevent The Psychological Effects Of Child Abuse
If you are a new parent who has suffered the psychological effects of child abuse as a child, you might want to seek out parenting classes. Parenting classes will enable you to learn appropriate tools and techniques to minimize the psychological effects of child abuse when parenting your child. It is also important for you to take care of yourself and know your limits. Work on building a healthy support network that you could rely on when life is overwhelming you. It is up to you to break the cycle of abuse and not allow your child to experience any of the psychological effects of child abuse. You will be thankful that you did.
